Choosing the right data serialization format depends on whether the primary consumer is a human editor, a network API, or an enterprise schema validator.

JSON (The API King)

Pros: Universal browser native parsing (`JSON.parse`), lightweight, minimal overhead, unambiguous syntax.

Cons: No comments, strict quoting rules, verbose for manual editing.

YAML (The Configuration Favorite)

Pros: Highly readable, supports inline comments, clean indentation syntax. Ideal for Docker Compose and Kubernetes manifests.

Cons: Significant security attack surface (deserialization vulnerabilities in older libraries), whitespace sensitivity can cause obscure bugs.

XML (The Enterprise Legacy)

Pros: Advanced schema validation (XSD), XPath querying, namespaces. Standard in SOAP and enterprise banking.

Cons: Extremely verbose tag closing syntax, heavy bandwidth overhead, vulnerable to XXE (XML External Entity) attacks.
