Understanding the SRT Subtitle Standard

1. SRT Structure

Each block features: 1. Sequential integer ID, 2. Start and end timestamps formatted as HH:MM:SS,mmm, 3. Text lines, and 4. A blank trailing line.

2. Characters Per Second (CPS)

Industry guidelines recommend 15-18 characters per second (CPS) max. Excessively dense subtitle lines force viewers to rush and miss visual cues.

3. Universal Compatibility

SRT and WebVTT are natively supported across YouTube, Vimeo, CapCut, TikTok, and video editing suites like Adobe Premiere and DaVinci Resolve.
